May 2nd, 2017  |  1 hr 6 mins

Notebooks, TV, binders, dunder mifflin, hatewatch, hatewatch with us, office supplies, pens, podcast, spoiler culture, spoilers, streaming, television, thought bubble audio

SPOILER ALERT!!!!!!!! That's right folks, this week we're tackling a MAJOR PROBLEM IN SOCIETY. That problem is spoilers, and much like the conversation in Episode 2 about cable, Kirstie and Kelsey will come to an awkward impasse because these crazy kids just don't live the same life. Just another sign of these, our divisive, modern times. Then for something completely different, we attempt our first Hatewatch Analog, a joyous hatewatch of non-media life happenings. This time, it's office supplies.....because that's a thing people care about we guess. It's 15 minutes of all of our feels about pens, notebooks, binders, and everything else you can find down at the local Dunder Mifflin.

Catastrophe and Characters You Hate

April 25th, 2017  |  1 hr 13 mins

Romcoms, Scrubs, TV, almost famous, catastrophe, character development, friends, girls, hatewatch, hatewatch with us, how i met your mother, podcast, thought bubble audio, unlikeable characters, you're the worst

This episode contains a lot of soul searching, deep shit, and our feelings about human emotions. In the first lesson of Kelsey's Rom Com curriculum, we watch Catastrophe and revel in its Britishness, saltiness, and joyfulness. Then, we talk about characters you're intended to hate and what it means to like or hate characters. We cover ground from the HGTV Prestige Russel Crowe blockbuster Almost Famous, to Friends, How I Met Your Mother, Scrubs, You're The Worst, Girls, and many other properties in between. It's basically a cityscape of properties with hate-able characters, and we round the whole thing out with a deep exploration of our most human vulnerabilities. We also finally created the Hatewatch With Us Drinking Game to make these episodes a little higher stakes.

PS: We know Almost Famous is actually by Cameron Crowe. Shut up.

We've got vocabulary lessons, cinematography lessons, the complete history of reboots, revivals, and Vince Gilligan's television empire, a Kirstie/Kelsey Origin Story, thoughts on vertical integration, and so much more! Friendly reminder that season three of Better Call Saul is a thing, so get hype!

Whoa baby do we cover some GROUND in this episode. We've got a throw back to Anastasia, we hatewatch the reboot of Beauty and the Beast, and we get to Hatewatch Kelsey's Joy in celebration of the announcement of NBC's Great British Bake Off knock-off, The Handmade Project. This takes us on a journey through films sets, gender roles, casting, bad CGI, and all our Comfort TV feels. So saddle up your miniature horses, Lil' Hygge is taking this dog and pony show on the road.

This week we dive deep into some arm chair psychologist shit with the Made-For-TV American Girl Doll Movies. To all the Samantha's Felicity's and Kirsten's out there, we apologize in advance. We're throwing it back to the Revolutionary War, Victorian times, our roots as nerds at any age, and the WB. What Fresh Hell Is This?

March 28th, 2017  |  54 mins 6 secs

TV, buzzfeed, game show, hatewatch, hatewatch with us, nbc, parks and rec, podcast, spring tv, television, thought bubble audio, trial and error

This week is all about Kelsey settling scores. First, she takes a bullet for us all while taking Buzzfeed to task over NBC's new show (and falsely advertised Parks and Rec placebo) Trial and Error. Then, she challenges Kirstie's assertions that she knows anything about network television with a new game segment, conveniently timed as a spring TV preview.

Tiny House Hunters and Hatewatch BYOB

March 21st, 2017  |  59 mins 13 secs

TV, abc, hatewatch, hatewatch with us, hgtv, podcast, television, the bachelor, the bachelorette, thought bubble audio, tiny house, tiny house hunters, yurts

In this episode we split the Hatewatch Difference. First, Kelsey explores a hatewatch staple, the Prestige HBO Drama Tiny House Hunters. We cover all the bases including yurts, millennial humor, and a Tiny House Hunters drinking game. Then we enter Kelsey's fear landscape with a Hatewatch BYOB, a segment where we each get to bring something to the table potluck style. In this case, The Bachelor serves as the stand in for that shitty friend who always brings PBR, and while Kirstie fails to justify or otherwise expand upon any of her original talking points, we do get pretty deep into some weird shit.

Cord Cutting and Anastasia

March 19th, 2017  |  1 hr 3 mins

Anastasia, Cable, Netflix, TV, cord cutters, cord cutting, dimitri, hatewatch, hatewatch with us, matt weiner, matthew weiner, podcast, streaming, television, the romanoffs, the romanovs, thought bubble audio

Today we quietly ignore our bad internet connection in order tackle a major point of contention in our friendship: Kirstie doesn't watch cable but Kelsey does! So spicy. In this episode, Kirstie fails to argue anything better than "I'm cheap" and Kelsey fails to argue anything better than "I like cable". Then, we celebrate the announcement of Matt Weiner/Weiner's live action Anastasia reboot by revisiting the 1997 animated classic (and Kirstie spends the whole segment misstating the year very confidently). We discuss ball gowns, our One True Dimitri, and our gratitude that this film has returned to Netflix.
