But first - the Emmy nominations were released and we have thoughts (shocker). Basically if Schitt's Creek doesn't sweep we're quitting. So after our designated time for gripes and gloats, we're on to The Dog House (UK?), a show that's a real mixed bag featuring puppies and poor decision making. While we aren't sure The Dog House is for us, the show that decidedly IS for us is The Great Pottery Throwdown (or as we so confidently call it, The Great British Throwdown - at some point all show names are the same). We learn about ceramics, we learn about how horny pottery can be, there's history lessons... and we won't spill the beans here but it's possible we may even have a new addition to the Dad Canon. Our second film this week is Sense, Sensibility, and Snowmen, which carries on the Hallmark tradition of disgracing Jane Austen's good name for the sake of Christmas content. Also, the podcast would like to note that the jingle bells in this episode is not in fact our own festive sound effect but rather the resident pod dog channeling the spirit of Christmas with his collar. However, we don't visit Netflix without generating a few gripes, and we have A LOT OF THEM because Netflix has unjustly removed Canadian Cottage Life from their offering. Once we get over our feelings about that (and begin our letter writing campaign), we meet our new friends Dick Strawbridge and Willie Fedora over at Cabins in the Wild. This segment includes Dragon themed cabins, live reports from Snowdonia National Park, and everybody's favorite time - Kirstie and Kelsey google some things about pioneer life. Then we move on to House Doctor (how can I help?), where we meet yet another bag of dicks, Grumpy Old Dickie. We learn a lot about rooms with a point of view and our point of view is that this show is a disaster. This episode wraps up with a discussion of the maple syrup grading system, so don't miss that. Spoiler alert, we're not happy about any of it. Then for our B segment, it's time for a Hatewatch Holiday: Qwikster Day. Announced on Sept 18th, 2011, Netflix made a life choice that they regretted and rectified by October 10th, 2011. Kelsey has had this day marked on her google calendar ever since. We chose to commemorate this mistake by watching the new Netflix Original: The Adventures of Bobby Draper. Sorry, I meant White Gold. Then, we take a field trip to the motherland and hate watch the Hallmark original movie. Moonlight in Vermont. You're going to learn a lot about syrup grading, maple trees, Montpelier, locally sourced ingredients, and New York real estate agents. Much like the oyster-mushroom-Meet-Cute, this segment is the beginning of something beautiful and unexpected, as Kelsey and Kirstie begin to fall deeply in love with Hallmark Original Movies.

All of this then got us thinking about what happens when people disagree about television. What do we do when people watch bad television, people are wrong about television, people don't like our input on television, television becomes a proxy for these, our modern times or people are too attached to Game of Thrones? Honestly, we aren't actually sure. Join us for a long and wandering journey through our feelings, insecurity, and soul searching in an attempt to avoid crushing the spirits of other TV watchers. This week we got grammar lessons as plot devices, Dany and Tyrion gave us a Grand Designs cross over, Arya and Hot Pie gave us a Great British Bake Off cross over, we were treated to Varys Story Time, Arya met a Hyppogriff, The Greyjoys bought some fireworks at a New Hampshire liquor store and brought them on the Pirates of the Caribbean ride, Theon recreated THAT scene from the Titanic, Sam is brewing polyjuice potion to cure Sir Friendzone's gonorrhea, and Jon looks like a bowl of vanilla ice cream. It's a high stakes game of sibling rivalries, stray pets, and alternative cross-over universes, complete with grammar lessons, dick-less jokes, and food that looks like STDs. Oh, and the Li'l Finger News Bulletin is coming in hot, perhaps foreshadowing the outcome of our Fantasy League, so get ready to place your bets on the House Snark's JV team!

This episode contains a lot of soul searching, deep shit, and our feelings about human emotions. In the first lesson of Kelsey's Rom Com curriculum, we watch Catastrophe and revel in its Britishness, saltiness, and joyfulness. Then, we talk about characters you're intended to hate and what it means to like or hate characters. We cover ground from the HGTV Prestige Russel Crowe blockbuster Almost Famous, to Friends, How I Met Your Mother, Scrubs, You're The Worst, Girls, and many other properties in between. It's basically a cityscape of properties with hate-able characters, and we round the whole thing out with a deep exploration of our most human vulnerabilities. We also finally created the Hatewatch With Us Drinking Game to make these episodes a little higher stakes.

In this episode we split the Hatewatch Difference. First, Kelsey explores a hatewatch staple, the Prestige HBO Drama Tiny House Hunters. We cover all the bases including yurts, millennial humor, and a Tiny House Hunters drinking game. Then we enter Kelsey's fear landscape with a Hatewatch BYOB, a segment where we each get to bring something to the table potluck style. In this case, The Bachelor serves as the stand in for that shitty friend who always brings PBR, and while Kirstie fails to justify or otherwise expand upon any of her original talking points, we do get pretty deep into some weird shit.

Today we quietly ignore our bad internet connection in order tackle a major point of contention in our friendship: Kirstie doesn't watch cable but Kelsey does! So spicy. In this episode, Kirstie fails to argue anything better than "I'm cheap" and Kelsey fails to argue anything better than "I like cable". Then, we celebrate the announcement of Matt Weiner/Weiner's live action Anastasia reboot by revisiting the 1997 animated classic (and Kirstie spends the whole segment misstating the year very confidently). We discuss ball gowns, our One True Dimitri, and our gratitude that this film has returned to Netflix.
