This week we're resisting RomComducation with It's Complicated which brought up a lot of beef about kitchens, kitchen renovations, kitchen size, kitchen storage, dream kitchens, and John Krasinski. Also in breaking news we reveal the true identity of QAnon?

Chasing Liberty

November 1st, 2020  |  43 mins 11 secs

2004, Europe, celine dion, chasing liberty, first daughter, hatewatch with us, mandy moore, matthew goode, movie reviews, priyanka chopra, romantic comedies, romcom, sam heughan, teen movies, teen romcoms, text for you, thought bubble audio, wine matthews

Well folks, it's Election Week 2020, and what better time than the present to (1) come to you with breaking news about Celine Dion, and (2) revisit some patriotic content from a simpler election year. For those of you who haven't trained Google to push notify you with news about Sam Heughan, we spend more time than we ought to (and yet not nearly enough time???) discussing his new film Text For You/SMS Fur Dich/Text For Dick. Then it's time for a Romcomducation History Lesson™️ about teen romcoms from the early aughts, a time when we were all apparently CLAMORING for movies about teenage presidential daughters. The important takeaway from all this is that Chasing Liberty is the better of these films based on the ~Matthew Goode wearing men's bell bottoms~ factor alone.

a little bit alexis, alexis rose, arrested development, canada, canadian broadcasting corporation, cbc, david rose, john rose, lgbtq, moira rose, open mic night, pop, romance, romantic comedy, romcom, schitts creek, the gay agenda, tv guide network

Everything is fine this week as we roll the dice and stay up way past our knitting curfew to give Kelsey a space to yell about all the reasons she was right about Schitt's Creek. It's an act of gate keeping, friendship, self restraint and shitty railroads. We get hype about characters, place, romcoms, sitcoms, Canada, and the Gay Agenda. If you listen to our show because we hate stuff, this is not the episode for you. If you listen to our show and think, "man I wish you liked stuff sometimes?", then this is for you. Come for the salty salts, stay for the shiny clean grand romantic gestures.

Then we're jumping to some more timely, topical content and sharing our thoughts on Someone Great, a new Netflix original movie that was fine. As reporters in the target demo field, we discuss hangovers when you're 29, millennial home decor, and career depictions. We also snuck in some exciting previews for Hallmark Channel movies AND some choices Lifetime is making, so stay tuned for more there.

We watched Jane the Virgin and the new Mike Schur show Abby's. We've got an episode of our Everwood Podcast Within the Podcast, a lot to say about narrative stakes, and some broad and varied hot takes on television pilots.

Jane the Virgin spoilers end around 37-38 minutes.

After a brief discussion about novelty Instagram belts we have a chat about the living rooms of sitcoms, because nobody likes a high end finish like Hatewatch With Us. Come for True American, the safety version, stay for... a teaser of our new side project? Stay tuned for more details coming soon!

Hatewatch Holiday: COLUMBUS DAY 2018

October 9th, 2018  |  1 hr 10 mins

1492 productions, 1995, chris columbus, christopher columbus, columbus day, films, harry potter, harry potter and the chamber of secrets, harry potter and the sorcerers stone, hatewatch, hatewatch holiday, hatewatch with us, hugh grant, julianne moore, movies, nine months, podcast, romcom, thought bubble, thought bubble audio

It's time for one of our favorite Hatewatch Holidays: Christopher Columbus Day! We carry on the Hatewatch tradition of spending some time with the first two Harry Potter films. This year it's Chamber of Secrets and while we have a lot of gripes about the adaptive choices Chris Columbus made, it turned out we had a lot of gripes with JK Rowling, Ginny Weasley, and the romcoms our generation was promised. Then we discuss the 1995 film Nine Months, a nice and accidental tie in from recent events from Hatewatch Nation. Chris Columbus gets back on his bullshit, Hugh Grant is a dweeb, and y'all get the birth story you never asked for. After all, the big childbirth scene is every actresses dream??? The plot really thickens when we find cause to give thanks to Chris Columbus, which brings a whole new meaning to Columbus Day.
