We are filthy trash dogs folks, hear us roar. We love trash so much because we come from a long line of trash dogs and as such we could not resist revisiting the ultimate filthy trash dog, the ABC 8 episode one hit wonder, Downward Dog. TL;Dr we still don't know why everyone except us loved this show but we sure don't!

Somehow we're still watching ABC this week as we DIVE IN to The (regrettable) Little Mermaid Live. We air our grievances about the false advertising that led us here, popup countdowns, crowd participation, and Shaggy's apparent kidnapping at the hands of ABC. But never fear! If you can help Kirstie acquire the naming rights to Score: A Hockey Musical, she has a distribution plan that will knock your fins(?) off.

This week, we are talking about ABC's fall tv offering, but we are ALSO talking about The Barenaked Ladies (again). First, we discuss Stumptown and Kirstie's war on lead female characters on network tv. Then, we try to work through our Downward Dog PTSD with Emergence, a show that is Spo0o0o0o0o0ky. Come for the Topical Content, stay for the Vermont dome folklore. If you are a broadcast exec, please come talk to us about what we can offer by way of Victorian ghosts if you set your show in New England instead of New York! Also, Downward Dog was a bad show.

This week we are two hosts who are feeling confident about what we have prepared for you: two shows that have names, a show that gives us feelings and a show that doesn't, and a rundown of the ways our heros have failed us. We watched Jane the Virgin and the new Mike Schur show Abby's. We've got an episode of our Everwood Podcast Within the Podcast, a lot to say about narrative stakes, and some broad and varied hot takes on television pilots.

Jane the Virgin spoilers end around 37-38 minutes.

Don't forget to subscribe to our new podcast, Our Watch Has Ended, for all of your Game of Thrones content!

It's that time of year where we look at the television landscape, put on our best White Savior Doctor lab coats and say, "How can I help?" We entered our third Pilot Palooza with a lot of hopes and dreams, and as it turned out nothing was our shit. After getting our squirrel on with this year's batch of shows, we may just need a montage to Coldplay's Fix You, a time machine, or a collection of tiny boxes which spark joy. We watched New Amsterdam, Timeless, Glow, Sharp Objects, Vida, Killing Eve, and checked in briefly with Last Man Standing, play a quick round of Hot Or Tall, talk about a lot of other shows we would have rather been watching that weren't on the list, and nominate this year's Downward Dog because as always our heros have failed us. Let us know if there are any pilots we missed in 2018, and let us know throughout 2019 what shows you'll want us to watch! If you liked Pilot Palooza you still have two more weeks to enter us in the Sam Heughan Charity Crossfit Contest!: https://www.omaze.com/experiences/sam-heughan-date-night

Alex Inc and Podcast TV

Everyone's favorite Tuesday-Adjacent podcast is back to get a little meta as we talk about podcasts becoming tv shows and tv shows about podcasts trying to become podcasts companies......or something. We start with the new Zack Braff show Alex Inc., where we struggle with our feelings about Zack Braff, teenage magicians, family comedies, and 401Ks. Get the sco op on the upcoming Hatewatch With Us adaptation including episode synopses, the dream cast, and other hot details. Then we move on to discussing the idea of adapting podcasts into television. We ponder deep questions like which podcasts are television worthy, what podcasts would we hate to watch, and play our favorite game Listen to Kirstie and Kelsey Google. Our main take away was Zack Braff isn't great, ABC needs to stay in their lane, and Roman Mars and Kevin McCloud should face off in a competitive reality show. Send in your pitch package for the Hatewatch With Us TV Adaptation! Best one gets pitched to Hulu.

Downward Dog Update and Narrators

Millennials, abc, dogs, downward dog, hatewatch, hatewatch with us, narration, narrators, podcast, thought bubble audio

Y'all gotta get as hype as Kelsey for this episode because the final verdict on season one of Downward Dog was released recently and it's time to put this show to bed. We talk about the last couple of episodes of the season and all the reasons your dog can't be you boyfriend, even if he is narrating your millennial life. Then we take everything we've learned from Downward Dog to discuss narrators: ones we like, important ones, literary devices, and the best Mad Men AU ever written. Dear listeners, please feel free to jump on that opportunity and send us the Peggy/Joan/Carrie Bradshaw narrator fan fiction of our dreams.

RomComducation Part 3 and Downward Dog

June 21st, 2017  |  1 hr 2 mins

Millennials, TV, abc, dogs, downward dog, hatewatch, hatewatch with us, podcast, romantic comedies, romcom, thought bubble audio

Ok first we're gonna shoot straight with you, yeah we know the sound quality is rough, but it does get better. Hatewatch With Us: Production is hard and cross platform editing is rude. Just like these, the badlands of our audio quality, we will be exploring both the peaks and valleys of RomComs in Part 3 of Kirstie's RomComducation. We've got the movies that defined the genre as well as the movies that destroyed the genre and trust us, we've got feelings on them all. Then, we decided to watch a show no one asked for: ABC's Downward Dog. We've got feelings about allegories, dogs, CGI, millennials, and more. Come for the snark, stay for the knitting patterns in a new segment/social media campaign we're calling Hatewatch Knitting Circle. Stay tuned for Downward Dog related project updates, and feel free to send up any and all of your knitting projects!

Tiny House Hunters and Hatewatch BYOB

March 21st, 2017  |  59 mins 13 secs

TV, abc, hatewatch, hatewatch with us, hgtv, podcast, television, the bachelor, the bachelorette, thought bubble audio, tiny house, tiny house hunters, yurts

In this episode we split the Hatewatch Difference. First, Kelsey explores a hatewatch staple, the Prestige HBO Drama Tiny House Hunters. We cover all the bases including yurts, millennial humor, and a Tiny House Hunters drinking game. Then we enter Kelsey's fear landscape with a Hatewatch BYOB, a segment where we each get to bring something to the table potluck style. In this case, The Bachelor serves as the stand in for that shitty friend who always brings PBR, and while Kirstie fails to justify or otherwise expand upon any of her original talking points, we do get pretty deep into some weird shit.
